Couples and Relationship Therapy

One reason for this is that our approach to couples therapy focuses on:

  • Deepening self awareness of each of the partners in the intimate relationship, and

  • Deepening  each partner’s  awareness of the internal emotional life of their partner.

This process typically requires exploring the internal and emotional life of each partner in the presence of their partner. As awareness deepens, possibilities for positive change emerge and we, as therapists, need to be able to support that process wherever it may take us.Difficulties in relationships between spouses, intimate partners, family members, or in other important relationships

Challenges that we typically address include: workplace, Difficulty navigating life transitions Traumatic experiences that negatively impact the present Significant change, loss and grief A feeling that something’s in your way, but you’re not sure exactly what it is Along with these experiences may come depression, anxiety, or other unwelcome feelings and behaviors that might be addressed by dealing with underlying issues.

It can be very helpful to work with a compatible, attuned and trusted psychotherapist to become more fully aware of what’s going on, and to make changes that take you in a direction you want to go.

We’d be happy to talk with you about your concerns and goals, and to explore the possibility of working together to make real improvements in your individual and/or relational life. We look forward to hearing from you!

The

Sooner or later, difficult issues arise in most relationships. You may be able to address those issues on your own, or through access to learning resources like books, videos, websites, etc.

When you’re feeling stuck, it can be extremely helpful to bring a third party (the therapist) into the picture. An attentive, attuned, and experienced therapist can help you work through difficult issues, and assist you in creating the relationship you want.

Relationship counseling typically focuses on intimate partners, a couple (married or not), or some other important relationship (parent-adult child, relationships between adult siblings, deep friendships, relationships at work, etc). We’re quite comfortable working with heterosexual, gay or lesbian relationships. We’d be happy to talk with you about working together to get the relationship you want.

Who We Are

We provide a supportive, safe, non-judgmental, and sometimes playful space in which to explore and resolve issues. At the same time, we don’t shy away from challenging issues and situations. Our work is experiential. That means we tend to “do” rather than “talk about.” We can talk about theory, but it’s probably more useful to simply start working together to address issues and move toward the goals that you have identified.

We don’t assume that we have “the answer” for you. Our work together is likely to be creative - we’ll work together to better understand your unique situation and to support you as you create the future that you want.
